This morning I started chapter 2 of Total Truth by Nancy Pearcey and it was talking about how each job can be a ministry if you are a christian. If you are a Christian you should be in full time ministry no matter what job you are at...but what some people think this mean is just "no lying or cheating" and doing your job well...these are good things and should be done but that's not all there is too it. Anyone Believer or Unbeliever can do their job well but we as believers should be doing more than that. As believers you should have the desire to integrate Christ in everything you do and your love for Christ should overflow into everything you do.
You as a believer cannot go to work and leave Jesus at home! This does not just apply to ministry or church jobs as some may think. Believer, You have the opportunity to turn whatever job you are at into your ministry and you should. You should do your job well but you should also do it with joy and the love of Christ. Everything you say to your co-workers should show the love of Christ as well as humility and respect. Believe me when I say this is hard! But were we called to an easy thing when we became a child of God? No, we were not but don't lose hope, beloved, the reward is awesome!
So I challenge you to honestly evaluate yourself at work. Are you doing what everyone else is doing? Or are being Jesus to those around you and in what you do at work?
I've had experience working in the kitchen of a Christian camp for four weeks, eight hours a day. The kitchen has three adult chefs, but the rest of us, ten to fifteen in all, are teenagers. Relationships and emotions can get tense in the kitchen, and that's when you can tell who is working/cooking for Jesus. Those who are act patiently and wear a bright smile. Those who aren't whine and complain. I can affirm that any environment, but especially work, is much better when we try to act like Jesus. I've heard of this book and author and hear that it's a good book!
