Have you ever heard the children's song "He's got the whole world in His hands"?
Its such a simple song but have you really stopped to consider the meaning, the power, and the impact?
The earth is huge...to say the least. It holds the entirety of the human race as we know it. Yet God is so big,powerful,strong and almighty...He holds it all. Not only does He hold the world as a whole but Psalm 139:7-10 says this...
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
God holds me personally. He guides me.
This actually reminds me of a story...One nice warm day this past year (2010) I was sitting in the living room and the door was open. Suddenly I saw a brownish blur and heard a thump on the door..I rushed over and to look out the door and see what it was...what I saw at first greatly saddened me. I saw a little finch laying there motionless. It was heartbreaking to me. I just stood there for several moments looking at it and trying not to get to emotional. My six year old brother came and saw the sight I saw. I tried to dissuade him from looking but he wouldn't relent. He stared too with sadness. I was about to walk off when Samuel (my little brother) cried "HEY SISSY! I think he's moving!".
At first I attributed this slight movement to the wind and then I looked a little closer and sure enough he was breathing!!! I rushed out to see if I could help the little guy out. He didn't appear injured but I wasn't sure. I gently scooped him up and he became conscious enough to perch on my hand. I stroked that stunned little birdie for a long while before he finally took flight and it was miraculous!
Why do I tell you this story? Because when I remember holding that little bird and stroking his soft feathers. I think of God holding me...a frail small human who needs a second chance and help...one who can only receive it from someone much bigger than the world...a loving God who can hold me in His hand!
And yes this is an actual picture of me and my bird visitor! =D
