When you think of feminine what words come to mind? Frilly, pink, fancy,petite?
Or perhaps you think Feminists,girl power, I can do anything a guy can.
But what does the Bible potray women and feminine as?
Lets open our Bibles to Proverbs 31 (a popular passage lately haha)
Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character
10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
So what do we see in the biblical woman?
Notice in verses 10-11 that she is worth more than rubies and very valuable to her to her husband!
Verses 12-15,17,27 show us that she is hardworking
Verses 16, 18,24 shows us that she is a good steward of her money and is industrious
Verse 20 shows us that she is generous! and helps those in need
verses 21-23 show us that she takes care of her family and that her husband is a well respected man
Verses 25-26 show us that she is clothed in strength and dignity, can laugh at the days to come, she speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue...she is ready to speak Godly instruction when needed! she knows God and His word and is not afraid to share it.
Verses 28-29 Her children and husband love her and praise her. She is a Noble woman.
Verse 30 She is a woman of the Lord and fears the Lord!
This is the design that God has for women...and friends even though this is the most common passage about it...there are others in Titus, psalms, and elsewhere.
So many women don't know what God wants them to be and what God created them to be. We have world that promotes Girl power over a Gentle spirit. We have a world that says "women can do anything men can do" over "God created men and women with special roles and purposes according to His wonderful design". We have a world that tells women that you don't need men and you certainly don't need a man to boss you around! But we fail to see that God tells us to be submissive to our husband, dads, and leaders of our church...not to be weak but because its God's design =D
There is way too much about this for this one blog post! I feel I have just barely skimmed the surface and sound like a broken record. So feel free to add your feedback below! I love hearing from you =D
