I just read a news article about a celebrity who was buried with all his favorite things...an iPhone, scarf, driving gloves, etc. This prompted me to ask Why? I mean I assume that they do not know Christ but...
These things are not going to be with him forever in eternity...They are going to be in the ground. I don't think that this family or he himself before he died realized that you can take nothing material with you. I could be wrong and they may have done this just for comfort or something... but it begs the question Who is reaching out to this family for Christ? Is anyone? I pray that someone is.
I hope and pray that there is a friend or family member reaching this family with the message and comfort of Christ. I know that in the event of the death of a loved one it makes you think more deeply about your own life and what will happen to you after you die. I pray someone is there to tell them about the hope of Christ and the peace you can have in death with Christ. My heart really goes out to these people.
My hope is that I would also be reminded every-time I hear about death to remember Matthew 6:19
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal." and that I would be more motivated to not be as materialistic and draw closer to my God!
P.S.
I will continue on with the total truth series eventually. I am taking an indefinite break from it for now. I have been too busy to prepare stuff.
When I asked my best friend why he was so good at evangelism, he replied, "The reason I love to evangelize is because when I die, those people whom I helped lead to Christ are the only things I can take with me." Think about that. We can't take anything with us except those people, the lost ones Jesus allowed us to have a part in their salvation! We can't take money, human relationships, gold, houses, cars, grades, jobs, or anything else with us... except the souls we helped lead to Jesus.
